Bonsai Notebook Our guest demonstrator for May is Gary Ishii. Gary, as a bonsai artist, is another gem from Southern California. Gary operates Chikugo-en Bonsai Nursery in Gardena, originally established by his father, the late bonsai master Masaru Ishii.

Bonsai Notebook We welcome back Frank Goya this month at the April 8 meeting. Frank has been involved in bonsai for over 50 years, so having him share his talents with us is a special opportunity for all of us.

Bonsai Notebook Takashi “Tak” Shimazu wiil be our guest presenter at the March 11 meeting. Tak was born in Kumamoto, Japan and immigrated to the U.S. in 1968, residing in Orange County. He ran Tak’s Gardening Service for 40 years before retiring. Tak got started in bonsai as a hobby being tutored by his brother.

Bonsai Notebook Our featured demonstrator for the February 11 meeting will be Al Nelson. Al’s presentations are always entertaining and informative, so be ready to take notes! He will be showing us how to develop a saikei or landscape design.

Bonsai Notebook Happy New Year to everyone! Our January meeting is scheduled for the 14th and will be our annual Holiday Potluck dinner. As in the past, please bring a salad, fruit dish or dessert. The club will provide the main dish and beverages.

Bonsai Notebook The November meeting will include Bob Pressler as our demonstrator. Bob has been with us in the past and always gives us an interesting and informative presentation.

Bonsai Notebook We have two meetings left before our December break and the new year. The October meeting will feature a demonstration by our own Peter Macasieb. Peter is a very well known bonsai expert, teaching workshops and demonstrating his skills in grafting and styling.

Bonsai Notebook Once again our September meeting will be held away from the Arboretum and hosted by Steve and Judy Anthony at their home in Covina. Each year it seems our off-sight meetings have grown in both attendance and enjoyment.

Viet Bonsai Today Society’s 1st Show
Viet Bonsai Today Society will have their first bonsai show the weekend of September 17th and 18th at the Bao Quang Temple in Santa Ana. The show will be held both days from 9:00AM to 5:00PM.

Bonsai Notebook The August 13 meeting at the Arboretum will be an opportunity to learn about the ficus (fig) family of trees. Ficus trees do very well in our climate, and our guest Ken Fuentes will share a lot of details on the care and training of figs.
