Our September 12 meeting at the Arboretum will begin as usual at 7:00pm,
However, we are trying something new for members only.
at 6pm:
Prior to the regular meeting we will be offering a Beginning Bonsai Basics Class for SABS Members
We will start with a presentation covering basic bonsai topics then, staying within our time frame, take feedback on specific topics the members would like to see presented in future months.
At 7pm:
Jason Chan will be our guest for the regular Sept monthly meeting.
Jason and his wife Renee own Eastern Leaf, a bonsai nursery and supply business in Chino.
Bring your tools because Jason will be facilitating a workshop much like he did for us last year.
We will split into small groups, each with a tree to work on.
Jason will present his ideas and work with each group on their specific tree.
It was a great learning experience for our members last year, and we look forward to another enjoyable evening this year.

August Highlights
We held our August meeting at the home and nursery of David and June Nguy.
It was also a full night with an Itoigawa Juniper workshop presented by David prior to the meeting, followed by a demonstration by David on another tree.
“Thank you” to David & June for being such amazing hosts & friends of SABS
All of the Itiogawa juniper workshop attendees went home with a beautiful new tree to add to their collection.
Isidro was the lucky raffle winner of David’s meeting demo tree.
In addition, Jesse and Patty each won a Kathy Boehme pot in the same raffle drawing.
Sue won a valuable japanese chop pot from the Toledo Collection.
Donations Update
In addition to our amazing Kathy Boehme Collection, our Club recently acquired the pot collection of Isabel Toledo who was an active member of SABS from the 1970’s into the 1990’s.
Isabel’s daughter contacted the club and offered us her huge collection.
It includes more than 600 bonsai pots, bonsai magazines, and other bonsai related items.
Although now deceased, we are grateful to Isabel, and to her daughter, for providing this collection to us. (Caitlin Elm, Saikei style, 14inch, CBS Bonsai in California vol. 21, 1987)
One of Isabel’s pots, identified as a very valuable old Japanese pot, was won in a special drawing at our Aug meeting.
There are many, many more such pots still to be identified as we sort through the collection.
Both Boehme & Toledo items will be included on our monthly raffle tables.
