7pm: “Bring Your Tree and Tools Workshop with Marcus Juniel
LA Arboretum- Palm Room
Our October 10 meeting at the Arboretum will begin as usual at 7:00pm in the Palm Room
at 6pm:
Prior to the regular meeting we will be offering a Beginning Bonsai Basics Class for members only.
This Beginning Bonsai class will cover basic wiring techniques.
We won’t have time to wire individual trees, but club wire will be available to use on a tree you bring for the main meeting, and help will be provided.
At 7pm:
The main meeting will be a “bring-your-own-tree” workshop facilitated by Marcus Juniel.
Marcus has been involved in bonsai for many years and got his start taking classes at Khan Komai’s nursery in Sierra Madre.
Khan was one of Santa Anita Bonsai’s founding members.
Marcus was a member of Descanso Bonsai Society for many years.
He has done many demos for our club and has demonstrated at the Bonsai-A-Thon in the past.
He is a very talented artist and will provide valuable input on your tree.
Bring a favorite tree that you would like to work on and get great advice.
As always, our senior members will also be available to help guide our newer members with their trees
It will be a valuable opportunity and learning experience for all of us.

Our gratitiude extends to Manuel & Ian, Patty & Isidro, Mark & Rocky and Sue… they all were amazing contibutors during our 2026 and are always adding to the meeting table.
Our members make our meetings as enjoyable as they are!

For our September meeting: “Thank you” to everyone who brought food to share and items for the raffle table.
We had a good variety of raffle items along with special pots from Kathy Boehme and trees donated by Jason.
There were also several pots from the collection of past member Isabel Toledo.

September Workshop Highlights
Members had an exciting experience in September with Jason Chan.
Jason supervised a workshop on foemina junipers supplied by his Eastern Leaf Nursery.
We broke into seven groups with each group having a tree to style.
Groups came up with many different styling options.
It showed us just how varied we can be with similar material.
Each group had a drawing, so a member from each group went home with a tree they had worked on.
Thanks again to Jason and Eastern Leaf for the trees and wonderful workshop.
