    Bonsai Notebook Once again our September meeting will be held away from the Arboretum and hosted by Steve and Judy Anthony at their home in Covina.  Each year it seems our off-sight meetings have grown in both attendance and enjoyment.

    Bonsai Notebook The August 13 meeting at the Arboretum will be an opportunity to learn about the ficus (fig) family of trees.    Ficus trees do very well in our climate, and our guest Ken Fuentes will share a lot of details on the care and training of figs.

    Bonsai Notebook We will not have a regular club meeting in June.  As we did last year, we would like the club to support the Descanso Bonsai Society annual show by attending the show reception on June 11.

    Bonsai Notebook Frank Goya is returning as our May 14, 2016 demonstrator.  Frank is known as the “dean” of saikei. He is famous for his talent at designing saikei, or living landscapes.

    Bonsai Notebook John Nielson will be our guest demonstrator at the April meeting.  John has been with us before and always has valuable techniques and information to share.  He is a licensed arborist and has over 30 years of experience with bonsai.

    Bonsai Notebook Our featured demonstrator for the March 12 meeting will be David Nguy.  He is well known for his work  with California junipers and black pines.  David has studied with Harry Hirao, Ben Oki, and Ernie Kuo.  He also traveled to Japan and studied with Masahiko Kimura.

    Bonsai Notebook Join us for the February meeting featuring Roy Nagatoshi.  He is a well-known bonsai master, and is an excellent demonstrator.  Roy learned the art of bonsai from his father, Shigeru Nagatoshi, and grew up working at his family’s business, Fuji Bonsai Nursery in Sylmar.

    Bonsai Notebook Happy New Year!  The January meeting will be our annual Holiday Potluck dinner.  Please bring a salad, fruit dish, or dessert.  The club will provide the main dish and beverages.  If possible, bring bonsai related items for the raffle table to help make this our biggest raffle of the year.

    Bonsai Notebook The November meeting will feature a bring-your-own-tree workshop.  Lindsay Shiba will be our guest, and he will be helping each member take their tree to the next level of design and development.
