Next Meeting:
July 11, 2026

at Peter Macasieb’s Bonsai Court- West Covina

This July 11 meeting will NOT be at the Arboretum due to a summer concert the same night.
This happens every summer.
By tradition over many years, we have held our July meeting in the backyard at the home of Peter and Marissa Macasieb in West Covina.

Also, we will meet at 6:00pm so we will have more daylight for the outdoor meeting.
This meeting has always been very popular because you will be surrounded by Peters amazing bonsai collection, so come early to browse through the trees.

Our Guest Demonstrator for July is Peter Macasieb
An 18 year old Tiger Bark Ficus (Ficus microcarpa) with a 6-inch root base (nebari) will be Peter’s main demo tree.
Tropical specimens of this size are highly prized for club events due to their fast growth. dramatic styling potential and high value impact The 2nd demo tree will be a black pine

June Meeting Highlights

Our June meeting featured Wanda Danesi as our guest demonstrator.
This was Wanda first time presenting to our club, and everyone enjoyed both her topic and her presentation.
Wanda is always looking for new plant material to use for bonsai, and she has found that Viburnum Tinus is an excellent species to use.
It has small leaves, and small berries turning to small flowers that are very proportional for bonsai use.
She brought several examples of viburnums found at nurseries that she cut back extensively to promote new growth that she then styled into very nice bonsai trees.
Wanda did a great job explaining and showing the styling process she follows.
She brought an extra viburnum that she did an initial styling on so that it had several options available for the new owner.

This tree went in our raffle, and Becky was the lucky winner of a new viburnum bonsai.

Thank you Wanda for an enjoyable evening with new ideas.
