We will kick off our new year of demonstrations with Michael Jonas in February.  Michael has been a long-time member of our club and served on our board.  He is also a member and current president of Descanso Bonsai Society. Michael has been involved in bonsai about 20 years.  He took classes with Kaz Yoneda and Sam Nakano in the early 1990’s at the Yamaguichi Bonsai Nursery.  Later he studied with Ted Matson in Pasadena, and benefitted from Ted’s attention to detail and horticultural knowledge.  Michael also studied with David Nguy to improve his wiring technique. Michael has taught bonsai classes at the House of Bonsai, and will be teaching classes at his home in Reseda.  Come and join us for an informative evening with Michael. 2015-02-Img01 Photo by: P. President’s Corner

Winter dormancy is about over for us in sunny California.  Pruning, wiring and potting will begin again in earnest, and we will all be busy keeping up with our trees.  In order to get the “jump” on this season, I encourage everyone to attend the annual Bonsai-A-Thon February 28 and March 1 at The Huntington.  The information on page 2  of the attached BAT event announcement below provides the details and a copy of the blank badge for free entry.

January Meeting Highlights

Our annual potluck dinner was well attended, and we had plenty of good food.  It was nice to just sit back and visit with fellow club members and enjoy the start of a new year.  Our co-founder Jim Barrett was in attendance and honored us by swearing in our club officers and Board for the next two years. The raffle table was full and members took home lots of bonsai related items.  Thanks to all for your continued support and membership in one of the oldest bonsai clubs in Southern California. 2015-02-Img04 Many of you took the  opportunity to renew your club membership at the meeting, and it was greatly appreciated.  Now is the time for  renewal.  As a not-for-profit organization, we need your generous memberships and raffle participation to fund our meeting location and programs. 2015-02-Img05SABS 2015-16 Club Officers & Board Members
