November Workshop
The November 8 meeting will be held at 7:00pm at the Arboretum.
We are trying something new at the meeting.
We want all of our members to enter a tree in our annual Memorial Day Weekend show in May.
We have a lot of new members in the club, and we want them to be comfortable with entering.
In order to help with that goal, we would like everyone to bring a tree to the meeting that you want to develop toward show entry.
We will have Daniel Deephouse with us again.
He will look at each tree and help members plan their tree development for show readiness.
We are also considering having a Novice category in the show to encourage members to enter.
Bring a tree and join us.
You will get good advice for developing your tree.
Highlights From October
Daniel Deephouse was our demonstrator in October.
He worked on a very nice Itoigawa juniper that had previously been styled and left to grow for a year and a half.
As with all living trees, it had a lot of unnecessary growth.
Daniel envisioned a style for the tree based closely on its original shape.
He explained each cut and branch placement as he worked and ended with a beautiful new tree using key features of the original styling.
The lucky raffle winner of the tree was Isidro, who now has a tree for potential display in the show.

Daniel also brought along a juniper bonsai leftover from one of his workshops.
That tree was won in the raffle by Debbie, a new member.

A special thanks to Ray Blasingame who donated two of his mother Marge’s shohin bonsai to the raffle.
One, an elm tree, was won by Victor, and the other, a zelkova was won by Peter.
Needless to say, we had a lot of nice bonsai trees and other items taken home from the raffle.
